Many condos are attached to one or more neighboring condos.  (For example, apartment-style, duplexes and quadraplexes.)  The benefits to these construction styles include the fact that it’s less-expensive to build this way.  Another benefit is that is less-expensive to heat and cool a property this way (as the adjoining units can help block the sun and the wind and insulate your unit further.  These adjoined-styles of construction can also be less expensive to maintain with possibly fewer roof lines, foundations and/or exterior walls per unit.

There are some factors to consider that may be considered a negative regarding the adjoined construction styles.  These include the fact that fire hazards may be greater, neglected maintenance issues could cause problems (such as termites or mold creeping from one unit to another), noise issues, driveway crowding and impeded view & sunlight.  There are a number of great solutions to mitigate these factors though.
